Small quarto, pp. xix, [1], 344. 3 plates including frontispiece of Cherryburn, vignette to title page and numerous engravings throughout, including 16 illustrations of fish to Appendix and an additional tipped-in plate of “The Maigre”. Publishers’ pebbled bottle green cloth with blind-stamped fruit and flower motifs inside border to boards, and gilt titles to spine. Spine tips and corners a little rubbed. From the library of Gilmour of Lundin and Moniave, with his armorial bookplate to front paste-down; a little scattered foxing, mainly to prelims and Appendix; no annotation or inscriptions. A Very Good copy.
 
Bewick’s classic autobiographical work, in an attractive publisher’s variant binding which we have not previously encountered.
