FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Post octavo, pp. x, 512; [2], 403, [1], [44]. Frontispiece portrait to Vol I. Full polished calf with 5 raised bands, gilt titles to labels to spine and gilt ruling to compartments. All edges stained red. Leather scuffed to edges with minor wear to extremities, and upper board of vol. II detached; joints starting to Vol I. A little scattered foxing otherwise contents clean; no annotation or inscriptions. Overall a Very Good set.
Cellini (1500-1571) was one of the most influential Mannerist artists, as well as a sculptor, writer and goldsmith. This detailed account of his career and personal life includes supernatural visions and the experience of being poisoned (twice!) in what is widely regarded as one of the most entertaining and important autobiographies of the Renaissance.
