FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp xiii, [3], 222. Frontispiece portrait of Yeats at the age of 23, from a portrait by H M Paget, with tissue guard. Original bright green cloth with titles and decoration in black to spine and upper board, designed by T Sturge Moore, in cream dust-jacket with black titles inside border of green harp motifs. Spine tips and corners very lightly rubbed; light toning at front gutter otherwise a very clean copy indeed. No annotation or inscriptions; many leaves unopened. Jacket toned to spine and lightly surface soiled with a couple of small nicks to edge. A Near Fine copy in Very Good jacket.
 
Essays on English and Irish literary life of the 1880s, mainly written for the Boston “Pilot” and Providence “Sunday Journal” from London, giving a valuable insight into the young poet’s thoughts of the time. Introduced and edited by Horace Reynolds.
