FIRST EDITION THUS, complete in 2 volumes. Octavo, pp Volume I vi, 502; Volume II [4], 376. Fold-out map of “The World According to Herodotus” to rear Vol II with sea marked in blue; numerous maps & plans in text. Original tan cloth with gilt titles and ruling to spine. Corners and spine tips bruised and spine lightly sunned. Second leaf Vol I /half-title only partially opened with associated 1-inch tear to blank only. Foxing mainly to endpapers and textblock edge; no annotation or inscriptions. Overall a crisp clean set.
Canon Rawlinson’s text made more accessible but unabridged, almost exactly as it originally appeared in the original edition of 4 volumes.
