Contemporary half-calf with marbled paper-covered boards; four raised bands with gilt ruling, maroon calf label with gilt titles, blind decoration to compartments, all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. From the library of John Hunter with his engraved bookplate to front pastedown; ownership inscription of Edmund H Wilkie to verso ffep with his note "Best edition" below. Upper rear joint starting; minor wear head/tail of spine and small loss to edge of title label. Boards surface scuffed. A little scattered foxing. Pp 29-52 and 529-38 lightly corner creased; small closed tear (less than 1-inch and to margin only, text unaffected) top edge pp 55-8 with associated minor nicks pp 49-54, otherwise contents clean and bright. A solid copy of this sought-after work.
