Book Condition: Very Good. Publishers’ red cloth with gilt titles to spine. Two envelopes loosely inserted with the printed address of the Parsons & Co Heaton Works to flap. Name of Cecil W Smith handwritten with 1933 date to ffep; no annotation. Textblock edge very lightly foxed & endpapers a little toned. Cover cloth rubbed to edges with minor wear to tail of spine and bottom corner of upper board; a few small surface scuffs to boards and faint stain to sunned spine. Biography of engineer Sir Charles Parsons (1854-1931) the inventor of the steam turbine and auxetophone, founder of C A Parsons & Co in Newcastle upon Tyne and of the Forth Banks Power Station, which was the first in the world to use turbo generators to provide electricity.
